Good Deeds Friday

by chrisglos @ Friday, 16. Mar, 2007 - 13:21:53

Yes I know its also Comic Relief day...but if we can all donate cash for that today, then we can all donate a few minutes and no personal cash for these and not neglet them :)

It would be really great as well, if you could link this post in your 'bloglists' to get others to do their bit. Thanks

Food for thought

by chrisglos @ Friday, 16. Mar, 2007 - 09:20:07

Link:
Homes across Britain throw away a total of 6.7m tonnes of food a year, a report is expected to reveal.
The study, by the government's waste body Wrap, will say that households in the country throw away just under a third of all the food they buy.

Amazing isnt it? I know we all do it, sometimes its inevitable, but still - a third of all food! Thats like buying a pack of Reeses peanut butter cups and taking out the last one, stamping on it, squidging it into the pavement, then spitting on it. You just wouldnt comprehend doing it would you?!!

Why are we so wasteful. Not only is it just throwing money down the waste disposal drain, but, yes you guessed this was coming, its not good for the environment. Most waste food ends up in landfills and contributes hugely to added emissions. It could be composted for one thing. Or better still, buy what you need and leave it at that.

It's doubly sad as well that most of the food is wasted, when there are so many other people who need it.

But I guess I'm more concerned at the thought of all those wasted peanut butter cups :(
