One change Wednesdays - Use the library!

One change Wednesdays
A companion piece to Good Deeds Friday

Readers (yes, both of you) should be familiar by now to the concept of Good Deeds Friday, and its aim to get you to think about doing a little bit of good for others or campaigns etc.

Well, not content to just sit back and only bombard you lovely helpful people once a week, Ive come up with this new concept.

The idea is that each Wednesday - makes sense to do it then as Ive called it One change Wednesday - I will post a suggestion of something you (and I) can integrate as a change into our daily lives. Something small, something barely noticeable and that will not cause any real change to our routines, BUT will take one little step towards helping with social & environmental concerns, waste, climate, and so on...as well as potentially saving you a bit of money.

They will be small, and some may be blatantly obvious...like todays...but why not give it a go? Theres nothing to lose, and potentially alot to gain.

This weeks suggestion:
Go to the library. That’s right, you heard me.

Give Blockbuster a miss and next time you feel like renting a movie do it from your local library. ‘What possible help can that be to anything?’ I hear you cry.

Well for one thing, it’s cheaper – from £1.00 to £3.50 for a whole week.
For, erm, two thing, it helps your local community by putting money into their coffers rather than some faceless corporate entity. This money spent in your local community sector can help the library remain open and provide an invaluable source of learning and research for many people who may not be fortunate enough to have alternatives. Not everyone can afford a computer, or books. Ensuring kids and those without access elsewhere maintain the ability to learn, read, find out about courses and opportunities is vital to sustaining peoples options and development.
(I agree, the funding should be there in the first place, but thats a different battle to be faced)

Not only that, you might find a nice book yourself.

Maybe you don’t see the library as somewhere particularly relevant to you, but it could be essential for someone else.
So, join now and pump the money into your community rather than a shareholders pocket.

Peace, we outta here.
